2018 Resolutions – Update

So as many people do at the beginning of a new year, I went ahead and made a few of my own. If you didn’t get a chance to read the post- you can check it out here.

So how am I doing on mine?

Is it a bad sign that I had to actually go back and read what resolutions I set because I couldn’t remember them all? Sad. I know.

Give up soda: While I’ve cut a lot of soda out of my life, I haven’t been able to knock it out for good, yet. I’m going to focus on the fact that I’ve significantly reduced my soda intake and keep working on it! Most of the time, it’s because I really want caffeine and it feels too late to drink coffee. And no, I’m not giving up caffeine. Never gonna happen.

Step out of my comfort zone: I think I’ve done this a little. For example, Bob and I went to Asheville and went on a food tour…. which is not something we would have normally done. It required me being around a group of people I didn’t know, participating in an activity I had zero control over. At the very beginning, when we were standing in a very crowded, very loud brewery, trying to find our group and tour guide, I may have secretly hoped the tour was canceled and would have been fine turning around and leaving. But we had so much fun and I’m glad I didn’t chicken out and leave. I also joined a gym and will be getting involved with that which I’m excited, but nervous about! I’m hoping it will be a good way to meet people as poor Bob is really my only friend in the area and I know he loves me, but he’s gotta get tired of me.

Use my time more effectively: I’d like to think that I’m doing a little better with this one, but I can definitely continue to improve in this area. Bob and I have been adding solo activities to our weeknights, so it’s really important to me that the time we have together is quality and not wasted away. Time goes so quickly! I don’t want to schedule every second of every day, but I’d like to look back on my day and know that I used it wisely, even if wisely means to relax and watch tv all day. 🙂

 

I wrote another post a few days after the new year, giving myself a 30-day challenge to not take my phone to bed each night so I would be more encouraged to read a book instead of scrolling social media for the 50th time that day.

Update on that: I’ve read only one book and I’ve brought my phone to bed all but 2-3 nights. In fairness, I use my phone for an alarm clock as well as a sleep tracker. I know, excuses, excuses. I am too attached. I’m working on it!
